National Mathematics day 2024!!!

"An equation means nothing to me unless it expresses a thought of God", A one of the many great quotes by the great mathematician and the estimater of pi, Srinivasa Ramanujan.

A genius since a very very young age, his way of thinking was his main ability, with which he created and discovered some of the great mathematical tools.

People have often asked me why I took mathematics out of all subjects as a way to make a career for myself and my answer has always been the same, my love and passion for it forced me to choose it.

Frankly speaking, choose mathematics as a career for the love and pride u take in it, not for the lucrative job offers it has to offer.

Coming back to the man who knew infinity, we all are aware of his estimation of pi, but he was a lot more than just pi. Some of his contributions are-

  • Infinite series for pi
In 1914, Ramanujan found a formula for the infinite series for pi, which is the basis for many algorithms used today.
  • Partition of numbers
Ramanujan was an expert in the partition of numbers, which is the number of ways a positive integer can be expressed as the sum of positive integers.
  • Ramanujan summation
Ramanujan's innovative theory of divergent series, called Ramanujan summation, allowed him to find a value for the sum of such series.
  • Ramanujan prime, Ramanujan theta function, and mock theta functions
These original and highly unconventional results opened new areas of work and inspired further research.
  • Notebooks
Ramanujan's notebooks contain summaries of his published and unpublished results and continue to be studied for new mathematical ideas

  • Ramanujan's work has had a lasting impact on mathematics, and the Ramanujan Journal was established to publish work in all areas of mathematics influenced by him

  • With that I will advice my friends, colleagues, elders and all those who are reading this blog to never leave the inner hunger for learning something new and most importantly, to not stop loving mathematics.

  • do watch this movie, a masterpiece by Dev Patel.
